Assemblymember Harry B. Bronson Responds to State of the State Address

I commend the governor for taking on some initiatives that the Assembly has been fighting for over the years. We have made great progress in the last five years in moving our state forward, but there is still work to be done. I am encouraged to hear the Governor focus on raising the minimum wage and targeting the creation of new job opportunities. The State under the leadership of Governor Cuomo has made significant investment in economic development. I look forward to continuing that work while we simultaneously invest in and focus on workforce development to support skills and career training for the people of New York. This will create job opportunity and help the people of greater Rochester be able to seize upon those opportunities.

The Governor’s proposal to fund anti-poverty initiatives, including the Monroe County and Rochester Anti-poverty initiative, is welcome news as it will allow us to offer opportunities to one of the most underserved populations in our community.

This year, we as a State must also double our efforts to ensuring our children receive the educational tools necessary to succeed. The governor has proposed an over $2 billion increase for schools, as well as encouraging the use of Community-Based Schools initiatives that will help our children and families in Rochester area.

I strongly believe that the opportunity to hold public office is a privilege and those who are given that privilege have a responsibility to maintain the highest level of ethical standards. Working with my colleagues and the governor, I will devote my attention to ensuring that New York State government restores the public trust in their elected officials.

These initiatives are included or compliment the Assembly’s Family First agenda which will build on our past successes. I have rolled up my sleeves and am working for the families of my district to ensure we are creating a better New York.”
