New Law Provides for Reimbursement of SBA filing Fees
September 30, 2013
Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-Nassau County) has announced that Governor Cuomo signed a bill he authored to allow Nassau County to grant exemptions for filing fees associated with federal Small Business Administration (SBA) loans taken out for Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts. In addition to exempting the fee in the future, the new law will authorize Nassau County to reimburse residents who have already paid the fees (Chp.350).
In the aftermath of Sandy, several property owners applied for and received SBA loans, which are required to be reported to the county clerk. This reporting requirement resulted in mandatory fees imposed on real property owners, similar to that of a mortgage.
