Tedisco: All Eyes Fall on Assembly Majority to Enact Reforms

Statement from Assemblyman James N. Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady/Saratoga)
July 17, 2009
“The state Senate recently adopted a series of rules reforms that are a step toward greater openness and fairness in that chamber’s legislative duties. Despite the fact it took extraordinary circumstances for the Senate to implement term limits for leadership roles and make it easier for rank-and-file senators to bring bills before the house for consideration, at least they got it done while, sadly, the state Assembly remains on vacation.

I again urge Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to reconvene session and enact vital reforms that will increase transparency, restore accountability and make government more efficient. The Senate impasse was a disaster for the people of New York, but from this catastrophe we have a unique opportunity to overcome challenges and finally alter the way Albany does business. All eyes now fall on Speaker Silver and his overwhelming Majority to do the right thing by enacting meaningful, positive reforms that would benefit everyone who calls New York home.”
