Assemblyman James Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) today paid tribute to local military personnel at a Yellow Ribbon Day 2010 event held in Saratoga Springs. Among the honored guests and supporters were Lt. Colonel Jamie Green of the New York Army National Guard and local Blue Star Mothers.
Tedisco helped pass a resolution declaring April 9th as “New York Sate Yellow Ribbon Day 2010.” The commemorative day and yellow ribbons were organized by local resident Carol Hotaling for the purpose of increasing awareness of the sacrifice and commitment made by the men and women in the military.
“There is no greater sacrifice than that of those who devote their lives to protect our freedoms and democracy. Our troops understand and bravely accept the responsibility to defend our country and way of life,” said Tedisco. “Standing here in solidarity with the Blue Star Mothers and other family and friends is just a small part of what we can do to show our love and appreciation for those who serve our country with honor.”
Tedisco continues to be a strong advocate for military personnel, veterans and their families by supporting legislation that will help them in their daily lives. Such legislation includes a bill that benefits servicemen and women injured in combat and one that recognizes previous military experience for EMT certification.
