Statement by Assemblyman James Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga) regarding VLT funding
May 17, 2010
In 2001, the state authorized the installation of 4,500 video lottery terminals (VLTs) at the Aqueduct Race Course. I cannot believe that in May 2010 that the future of our track here in Saratoga is in jeopardy because state leaders cannot agree upon an operator for Aqueduct. By the most conservative estimates, once up and running, Aqueduct will generate $1 million per day. With the state confronting a $9 billion budget deficit and nearly 10 percent unemployment, I am stunned by the lack of urgency associated with this whole process. It is time for everyone to work together to do what is best for Saratoga and for New York.
