Tedisco Makes Available Informational Property Tax Brochure

February 23, 2004
As the deadline for filing property tax exemptions quickly approaches, it is important to know what exemptions you may be eligible to receive. In an effort to help residents in that quest, Assemblyman James Tedisco (R,C-Schenectady) has made available brochures outlining some of the more common property tax exemptions available to citizens in his district.

Tedisco said that people often do not take advantage of money-saving exemptions. He said his brochure lists particular exemptions and their availability in specific towns. Tedisco hopes more people will become interested in finding out what other exemptions they may be able to receive after reading his brochure.

"The state passes laws granting property tax exemptions to make the tax burden a little easier on people," said Tedisco. "I want people to know about these exemptions so they can keep a little extra money in their pockets."

Some of the exemptions listed in Tediscoís brochure include exemptions for the disabled, homeowners, and seniors. He also included information on how to contact local property assessors and the Office of Real Property Services Web site to obtain a more extensive list of exemptions. Seniors who already qualify for enhanced STAR are reminded that they must file an exemption application every year.

Brochures can be picked up at the assemblymanís district office at: 12 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 or call (518) 370-2812 to have a brochure sent to your home.
