Joint Statement from Assemblywoman Jane Corwin and Assemblyman Joe Giglio on the Investigation into the Lockport Avenue House
June 16, 2009
On Monday, June 15, we had the opportunity to meet with the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) to discuss the events surrounding the tragic murder of a staff member at the Avenue House in Lockport by two teenagers under their supervision. During the meeting, the OCFS disclosed that they were launching an internal investigation into the murder, and we questioned the office in regard to staffing requirements and the policy and procedures in place that would relegate the two juveniles into this type of group home.
As we anxiously await the results of the investigation, our work will continue. We anticipate future meetings to verify the progress of the ongoing inquiry as well as to determine the direction that should be followed to prevent these types of tragedies from occurring in the future.
