Statement from Assemblywoman Jane Corwin
October 29, 2009
The Empire Center for New York State Policy released a sobering report earlier this week indicating that our state has lost nearly 1.5 million residents over the past decade – far more than any other state in the nation. The report is a startling reminder of the real impact of the state’s failed tax-and-spend philosophy, and should serve as a wakeup call to downstate leaders who continue to use hardworking taxpayers as if they were an ATM card. Since I was elected, I have fought to rein in the cost of government and push for real tax relief, only to have my efforts stymied by New York state powerbrokers in the Assembly. However, the report should remind my colleagues of the uncertain future we face if we continue to ignore the facts.
