June 18, 2008
Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey (R,I,C-Peru) (above) today joined her Assembly Minority colleagues and members of New York’s dairy industry during the annual Dairy Day reception in Albany. The reception included samples of New York State milks, cheeses, yogurts and ice creams, which were available for visitors to enjoy while taking in the rich history of New York’s dairy industry.

“Agriculture is the backbone of New York’s economy and I was happy to celebrate all that this industry has done for our state during today’s reception,” stated Duprey. “Not only were we able to celebrate Agriculture as an industry, but we were able to highlight the dairy industry and thank all of the dairy farmers for the role they play in our economy.”

New York is home to over 6,200 dairy farms, placing us third in the nation and first in cottage cheese production. Milk alone accounts for one-half of the revenues New York farmers bring in.

“Dairy farms are bountiful within my district so I am pleased to highlight their accomplishments and everything that they do for our state,” stated Duprey. “I will continue to work with the agricultural industry to produce legislation that will help them during these tough economic times,” concluded Duprey.

Vendors featured at today’s event included Stewart’s Shops, HP Hood, Garelick Farms, The Ice Cream Man, Upstate Niagara Cooperative, F. Cappiello Dairy Products, Ronnybrook Farms, Mercer’s Dairy, American Dairy Association, NYS Dairy Foods Incorporated, and Pride of New York.
