Duprey Sponsors Legislation to Allow for Local Government Consolidation
June 5, 2009
Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey (R,I,C – Peru) sponsored legislation which passed the Assembly that would enact the New N.Y. Government Reorganization and Citizen Empowerment Act. The measure will allow local government entities to facilitate consolidation or dissolution. “New York state’s local government system contains many entities including towns, villages and different types of districts. This legislation streamlines the process for local government or residents to initiate the process to consolidate and, when feasible, dissolve municipal entities,” said Duprey. Local governments will be provided with uniform and easy to comply with procedures that will help them consolidate or dissolve entities with a goal to save taxpayer dollars and reduce local property taxes.
