Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey (R,I,C – Peru) today has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in their October breast cancer awareness campaign to urge women to get mammograms.
“Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death for women so it is crucial that women take measures to ensure that if they do get breast cancer, it is caught early,” said Duprey. “I encourage all women over 40 to schedule an appointment for a mammogram because it quite possibly could save their life.”
The hotline has been in existence for 29 years and is a project of the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Long Island. All services are free.
For more information and to locate an accredited mammography facility nearest to you, call the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program at 800-877-8077 or visit their website at www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer. Callers also can get emotional support from the hotline’s specially-trained volunteers, most of whom are women who have had breast cancer.
