Today, in the midst of an already devastating economic climate, I was notified that the Pfizer, Inc.’s research and development facilities in Clinton County are slated to be closed. As part of the integration of Pfizer and Wyeth, Pfizer recently decided to consolidate their 22 worldwide facilities into five. Unfortunately, the facilities in Chazy, Rouses Point and Plattsburgh were among those chosen to be consolidated. In addition, there will be layoffs at the Pfizer manufacturing facility in Rouses Point.
My thoughts go out to the employees and families affected by these actions and the communities involved. I congratulate Garry Douglas for immediately stepping to the plate to convene a task force of community leaders Tuesday morning. Although I will be in Albany for a special session, Jill Abdallah will represent me at the meeting. I look forward to working with everyone as we move forward on behalf of the employees and our communities.
