Duprey Sponsors Legislation To Protect Our Campgrounds And Children
March 14, 2013

To ensure that families have peace of mind while camping, knowing their children are safe from harm, Assemblywoman Janet L. Duprey (R,I,-Peru) has sponsored legislation, Assembly bill 3759, to protect kids from sexual predators on campgrounds in New York.

Duprey’s legislation would prohibit certain registered sex offenders from entering or using overnight campgrounds in the state. Campgrounds are typically open and expansive, allowing children to roam free and make new friends, creating a dangerous place for predators to prey on unsuspecting minors.

“New York state campsite reservations are on the rise, as more vacationers look for less expensive recreational spots to enjoy with their families,” said Duprey. “For families, camping can help create lasting memories. When you think of camping, what comes to mind? Roasting marshmallows by the fire, singing songs and telling spooky stories? Camping is about having fun and enjoying our surroundings with our loved ones. We cannot allow our children to be vulnerable to criminals who seek to cause them harm. My legislation would keep them safe and secure from such deranged individuals.”
