Assemblywoman Millman Appointed to Assembly Committee on Ways and Means
January 24, 2013

On Thursday, January 24th Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver appointed Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman (D-Brooklyn) to the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means. “It is a great honor to formally accept the appointment to the Committee on Ways and Means,” said Assemblywoman Millman. “I look forward to working with my committee colleagues to formulate a fair and balanced approach to programmatic funding and formulating proper revenue streams.”

The appointment to the Committee on Ways and Means comes at time when there are many struggles to fund programs throughout the state. “The opportunity to be a strong voice for my constituents and the programs that serve the communities I represent is hugely important to me,” said Assemblywoman Millman.

The Assemblywoman’s Chairwomanship of the Committee on Aging coupled with serving on the Committee on Ways and Means provides Assemblywoman Millman an opportunity to shepherd important legislation that requires proper funding. “So many senior citizen programs come under attack every legislative session,” said the Assemblywoman. She continued by saying, “I fought hard to restore funding to the EPIC discount prescription drug program and I will be able to fight more effectively for such senior programs on these two important committees.”

Assemblywoman Millman also has committee assignments on Labor, Education, and Transportation.
