Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today joined his legislative colleagues and thousands of New York sportsmen to promote the state’s hunting, fishing, trapping and other outdoor recreational industries at this year’s Sportsmen and Outdoor Legislative Awareness Day. The event, sponsored by the Assembly Minority Conference, was held in the “Well” and third floor terrace of the Legislative Office Building.
“Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and other outdoor activities are of great economic and recreational importance to families and businesses in Western New York,” Ceretto said. “It is incumbent upon lawmakers from across the state to work together to defend the rights of sportsmen in order to ensure that our rich tradition of outdoor recreation flourishes for generations to come.”
The Sportsmen and Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day highlights the influence outdoor recreational sports have in the lives of New York’s more than 1.4 million resident sportsmen as well as their substantial contribution to the state economy. Currently, hunting, fishing, trapping and outdoor recreation contribute more than $6 billion to the state’s economy annually.
“From invasive species to excessive firearms regulations and budgetary cuts, New York’s sportsmen and outdoor industries face many challenges that must be met head-on in order to protect them and their valued role in our culture and economy,” Ceretto said.
