Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today released the following statement regarding the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division’s ruling on a lawsuit that he joined as a county legislator:
“I am very disappointed with the determination by the court that Niagara County does not have standing in its lawsuit against the New York Power Authority (NYPA). That being said, due to this litigation, the county has seen a turnaround in the way we’ve been treated. Since the lawsuit was filed, NYPA has come to the table with allocations of low-cost power for several projects, including Yahoo! in Lockport and the proposed Verizon data center in Somerset. In addition, NYPA has renewed contracts for companies, such as Occidental and DuPont, participating in the Power for Economic Prosperity (PEP) program. I am proud to have led the effort to help our county get the attention we deserve.
Throughout this process, the Power Authority has stated that the litigation will not impact its efforts to work with Niagara County for the betterment of our area. I fully expect NYPA to honor its commitment now and well into the future.”
