Ceretto Passes Legislation To Promote Local Wineries

Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) tonight helped pass legislation (A.7622) that will promote local wines and wineries. The bill allows smaller wineries, those that produce less than 150,000 gallons a year, to sell wine at outdoor and indoor events and gatherings by issuing them a temporary permit through the New York State Liquor Authority for a fee of $26.

“The wine industry is an important part of Western New York’s tourism industry and helps generate local revenue for the region, as well as create jobs,” said Ceretto. “This legislation will help promote the state’s mom-and-pop wineries by allowing them to sell their wines at numerous summer festivals and events, which attract tourists from around the country to Upstate New York.”

“This legislation goes a long way toward increasing the competitiveness of local wineries and I'd like to thank Assemblyman Ceretto for his advocacy and support in passing this essential legislation. On a level playing field, local wineries here in Niagara County can compete with anyone on taste and value, and this legislation will give us that opportunity,” said Oscar Vizcarra, President, Niagara Wine Trail, and Owner, Vizcarra Vineyards at Becker Farms.
