Assemblyman John Ceretto Calling On Assembly To Pass Caylee’s Law
July 15, 2011

Assemblyman John Ceretto (R, I – Lewiston) today announced that he signed on as a co-sponsor of Caylee’s Law in the Assembly. This legislation would make it a felony for a parent or guardian to fail to notify law enforcement of the disappearance of their child within a timely manner.

“Currently, New York State has no mandatory reporting law for parents or guardians to notify law enforcement officials of the disappearance of their child within a timely manner,” said Ceretto. “I think it is essential that we establish a law in New York State to ensure that missing children are reported immediately so that law enforcement officials can have the best chance of bringing the child back safely while giving families the answers they need and deserve as quickly as possible.”

Assemblyman Ceretto also noted that he hopes to have the bill “Laura Cumming’s Law” come to the Assembly floor for a vote in the 2012 legislative session. The bill passed in the Senate during the 2011 session but never came to the Assembly floor for a vote. This bill would help prevent child and adult abuse by expanding the authority of county protective service workers to enable full investigations into allegations of abuse.
