Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) this week issued Assembly Certificates of Merit to the numerous schoolchildren who completed and turned in this year’s New York State Assembly Summer Reading Challenge.
“The Summer Reading Challenge is a terrific way to keep our children learning over the summer months, and I am encouraged that so many of our students took the challenge,” said Ceretto. “Their commitments to learning deserve our praise, and I commend all the participants who completed the program on a job well done.”
The Summer Reading Challenge was made available to schoolchildren from preschool through elementary school, and required participants and their parents to read together for at least 15 minutes each day during the months of July and August. The students who successfully completed the program read for 40 days or more and marked off the calendar contained within the Summer Reading Challenge brochure and returned it to Assemblyman Ceretto’s office.
“I am hopeful that next year we can increase participation in the program, and I look forward to working closely with area schools and libraries again next year to promote this worthy program,” said Ceretto.
