Ceretto: A Good Friend To Western New York Farmers

Assemblyman John Ceretto (R, I-Lewiston) has been welcomed as a member of the Farm Bureau’ s “Circle of Friends” for his support of New York state farmers during the 2011 Legislative Session. The award is given annually to state legislators who demonstrate strong support and diligent work on behalf of the agricultural community in New York state.

“I am honored to be recognized by the New York State Farm Bureau,” said Ceretto. “Agriculture and its related industries greatly contribute to the state’s economy and are a vital part of Western New York’s economy. The Legislature must continue to pass initiatives that promote this industry, while providing the necessary aid to support farmers across the state.”

To promote the region’s agricultural and wine industries during this year’s legislative session, Assemblyman Ceretto helped:

• Restore funding to the Wine and Grape Foundation, which promotes the region’s wine industry and agri-tourism industry, a helpful boost to the region’s growing wineries.
• Pass legislation that allows for the manufacture and sale of frozen desserts made with wine, and gives smaller wineries the ability to sell wine at outdoor and indoor events and gatherings to promote Niagara County’s wine and agriculture industries.
• Helped preserve the state’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, which over the years has proven to be an effective and environmentally-sensitive way of managing pests by using current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment.

“I am pleased that I could do my part in helping the state’s agricultural industries and farmers this year, and I look forward to advancing the needs of the farming community during the 2012 Legislative Session,” concluded Ceretto.
