Ceretto And Labor Team Up To Fight For Local Jobs
January 19, 2012

Assemblyman John D. Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today announced that he will attend a labor-coalition-backed rally on Saturday, January 21 at 9:00 a.m. to object to out-of-state hiring at Norampac, Inc.

“While we all appreciate the decision of Norampac to expand in Niagara Falls, I consider it a tremendous disappointment that they are bringing in out-of-state contractors to work on the site,” said Ceretto. “By hiring locally, Norampac would have had access to our highly-skilled workers, who have a stake in rebuilding their community and who care about the short- and long-term goals of the project.”

Ceretto also noted the tremendous public financial support Norampac received from Empire State Development as well as local agencies, suggesting that while New York State and Niagara County have invested in Norampac the company has not fully returned the favor.

“On January 21, I will stand with my neighbors, my friends, my constituents and people dedicated to this area,” said Ceretto, a former UAW chapter president. “This is about local jobs. Norampac has been given a tremendous amount of assistance by the people of New York State through their hard-earned tax dollars, and the company has a duty to acknowledge this investment and help to support our quality local workers, who are second to no one.”
