Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today announced that he has been appointed to the Niagara County Economic Development Strategy Committee by the Niagara County Legislature. Ceretto will serve on the committee as an ex-officio member of the county legislature and will work with both county and state officials to foster economic development throughout Niagara County.
“I am pleased to be appointed to the Niagara County Economic Development Strategy Committee by the county legislature, and I look forward to continuing my efforts to build a stronger economy and create jobs in Niagara County,” said Ceretto. “Economic development and private-sector job growth must continue to be the top priority for state and local officials, and I look forward to building upon last year’s success to make Niagara County a more attractive place to own and operate a business.”
In 2011, Assemblyman Ceretto helped pass several pro-job growth initiatives in his first year as the region’s assemblyman, including SUNY2020, Recharge NY and the Excelsior Jobs program. These initiatives, coupled with over $100 million in economic development funding and tax credits awarded to the Western New York Regional Council to help fund a number of projects in key industries such as tourism, manufacturing, education and work-force development, were a good start at revitalizing the local economy.
Assemblyman John Ceretto also was named a pro-jobs lawmaker by The Business Council of New York State, Inc. and received the Niagara Streets Business Association’s Statesman of the Year Award for his support of the region’s small businesses.
“While the state Legislature accomplished much last year to improve our region’s economy and create new and innovative employment opportunities, now is not the time to rest on these accomplishments,” said Ceretto. “We must continue to advance a pro-jobs agenda in Albany to improve New York’s economy and work with our colleagues from both political parties to maximize Governor Cuomo’s proposed $1 billion investment in the Buffalo-Niagara region and make our entire state a more attractive and affordable place to live.”
