Ceretto: State Budget Done Early, Done Right

Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today helped pass this year’s state budget two days before the April 1 deadline, the first time in nearly 30 years that New York’s spending plan was passed early.

“By reducing state spending, holding the line on taxes and promoting economic development, this year’s state budget continues to build upon last year’s accomplishments and is another important step forward for the people of New York State,” said Ceretto.

In addition to being a taxpayer-friendly budget, Assemblyman Ceretto noted that the spending plan also increases funding to Niagara Falls’ public schools and makes substantial investments to the region’s infrastructure and economic-development programs.

“The fiscal responsibility of the last two years is paying dividends for Western New York,” said Ceretto. “This year’s state budget provides increased school aid to districts throughout New York and enhances funding to high-needs school districts like Niagara Falls. Our students need the best education to compete in today’s global economy, and I am pleased that I could help provide additional funding to our local schools.”

“We also were able to use targeted funds to invest in several local transportation projects which, combined with the first down payment of the $1 billion promised by the governor in economic development aid for the Buffalo/Niagara region, will help lay the foundation for a stronger economy in Western New York and create good-paying jobs,” said Ceretto. “This funding, combined with greater investments in the region’s state parks and the utilization of low-cost power, will help generate new employment opportunities for families throughout Niagara County.”
