Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) is teaming up with the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) to help promote this year’s statewide volunteer firefighter recruitment drive, which will take place at firehouses across the state on Saturday, April 21.
Assemblyman Ceretto noted that local volunteer fire departments participating in the recruitment event include Lewiston #2 Fire Company, located at 1705 Saunders Settlement Road in Niagara Falls, which will host its open house from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and the Bergholtz Fire Company, located at 2470 Niagara Road in Wheatfield, which will host its open house from noon to 5 p.m.
“RecruitNY is a coordinated effort to boost membership in volunteer fire departments, which has decreased in recent years,” said Ceretto. “Volunteer firefighters provide essential services to our communities, often putting themselves in harm’s way to save the lives and property of their friends and neighbors.
“For their service, volunteer firefighters can receive a number of tax breaks, medical insurance and also may receive assistance paying for college,” said Ceretto. “I would encourage anyone interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer firefighter to stop by one of the area firehouses participating in this weekend’s recruitment drive.”
For more information or to find other fire departments participating in RecruitNY, visit www.recruitny.org or contact your local department via a non-emergency phone number or website.
