Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) today showed his support for providing mandate relief to local small businesses. Ceretto noted that across the state our communities are being hit with unfunded state mandates that put pressure on property taxpayers and local job creators.
“Small businesses are struggling across New York and are being weighed down by unfunded state mandates,” said Ceretto. “I’ve joined my fellow lawmakers in Albany to support several measures, including Assembly bill 8447, to end the unfunded mandates that are damaging our local economies and placing unsustainable tax burdens on individuals and businesses.”
To demonstrate the impact unfunded state mandates have on Western New York’s small businesses, the Niagara USA Chamber will be holding a forum from 3 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. today. During the event, panel members will discuss ways to reduce costs for local businesses and make the state a more competitive place to own and operate a company.
The program will be held at the Power Vista at Niagara Power Project in Lewiston and will feature several speakers, including Brian Sampson, executive director of Unshackle Upstate; Heather Briccetti, president and chief executive officer of the Business Council of New York State; Tom Stebbins, executive director of the Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York State; and Kenneth Adams, president and chief executive officer of Empire State Development.
“Forums like this provide useful information for our local communities and businesses,” said Ceretto. “By working together, I am confident we can find solutions to keep taxes low and improve the climate for our small businesses, which are New York’s leading job creators.”
