Ceretto Joins Efforts To Combat Bullying
June 26, 2012

Assemblyman John Ceretto (R,I-Lewiston) is teaming up with the City of Niagara Falls to help promote efforts to combat bullying. The city’s anti-bullying campaign will kick off tonight at the True Bethel Baptist Church and is being sponsored by the Niagara Falls Police Department, Niagara Christian Basketball League and Niagara Falls School District.

“This event will help put the spotlight on bullying and its impact on young adults. I am confident that by increasing awareness, and through education, we all can help crack down on bullying and its harmful effects,” said Ceretto.

According to a Yale University study, bullying victims are two to nine times more likely to consider suicide than their non-bullied counterparts – a startling fact.

“There have been far too many tragic stories of promising young people committing suicide because they were bullied relentlessly in school and at home via social media,” said Ceretto. “It is our collective responsibility to end this harmful harassment and help transform our schools and communities into bully-free zones.”
