Assemblyman John D. Ceretto (R,I,C-Lewiston) today signed the New York State Legislative Wine Pledge in support of the region’s expanding wine and grape industry. The pledge requires Assemblyman Ceretto to serve New York state wine and grape products at events sanctioned by his legislative office or campaign organization.
“The wine industry is an important part of Western New York’s tourism and helps generate local revenue for the region, as well as create jobs,” said Ceretto. “This pledge highlights the wine industry’s economic importance to lawmakers from across New York State and strengthens our ability to pass legislation that will help our vintners, grape growers and wineries continue to grow and expand.”
According to Ceretto, New York State is currently the third-largest wine-producing state in the nation, with more than 250 wineries statewide and approximately 200 of these wineries being established in the past 30 years. The wine industry also employs thousands of seasonal and full-time workers, while generating billions of dollars each year for the state and local economies.
“Over three million people visit New York’s wineries every year,” said Ceretto. “The industry’s growing importance to local tourism should not be understated. Our wineries are a growing tourist draw, and I will continue to work to pass legislation that will help expand this thriving industry.”
