Morelle Announces Deborah Ronnen’s Reappointment to New York State Council on the Arts
July 10, 2013

Assembly Majority Leader Joseph D. Morelle, D-Irondequoit, announced today that Deborah Ronnen of Brighton, a renowned art curator and champion of Upstate cultural institutions, has been reappointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). She has been a NYSCA member since 2008 and served as Chair of the Visual Arts Committee during her first term. She has also served as a Member of the Empire State Plaza Art Commission.

"There is no stronger advocate for the arts than Deborah, and it was an honor to nominate her once again," said Morelle, former chairman of the Assembly's Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Sports Development. "Deborah is the voice Upstate needs on the Council, and the depth and breadth of her knowledge make her a great representative for all New Yorkers, as she has proven over the past five years. I am grateful to the Governor and to Deborah for her dedication and willingness to serve.”

Ronnen has held leadership roles with many of Upstate’s best-known arts organizations, including Garth Fagan Dance and The Buffalo Fine Arts Academy at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. She is a tireless supporter of all arts disciplines and has been an active adviser to Rochester Contemporary Art Center and the Eastman School of Music Young Artists International Piano Competition.

Ronnen owns and operates Deborah Ronnen Fine Art, which promotes contemporary and modern art, artists and scholars through lectures and exhibitions.

NYSCA was created in 1960 to preserve and promote New York’s cultural assets. Each year it delivers more than 2,000 grants to a broad range of agencies across the state.
