Two Area Students Earn Italian-American Scholarship

Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,I,C-Gowanda) today announced two students from the Southern Tier have been awarded scholarships by the New York State Conference of Italian American State Legislators.

Emily Grochowina of Salamanca was awarded a $1,500 scholarship for her academic achievements. Grochowina, a senior at Salamanca High School holds memberships to several National Honor Societies and plans to attend St. James Mercy Health School of Radiological Sciences in Hornell this fall.

Jeremiah Mulson of Ripley earned a $1,500 scholarship for accomplishments in athletics. A senior at Ripley High School, Mulson was captain of both the wrestling and football teams and was one of 36 players chosen to represent New York state this year in the Down Under Football Program in Australia. Mulson plans to attend Jamestown Community College this fall majoring in criminal justice.

Only four scholarships were awarded to students statewide based upon several factors including grade point average, involvement in the community, as well as accomplishments in sports – two for academic merit and two for athletic achievement.

“It speaks volumes about the kind of young people we have in our community that of four scholarship recipients statewide, two come from this region,” said Giglio. “Both Emily and Jeremiah have proven themselves as outstanding students and volunteers and I am certain they will be very successful in any endeavor they pursue.”
