Giglio Announces Grants For Local Govs

Funding to improve archives, record keeping

Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,I,C-Gowanda) today announced a series of grants for local governments and school districts throughout Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua counties that are being distributed by the New York State Archives (NYSA). The grants, ranging up to $74,700, will be used to assist local governments and community organizations to improve record management systems.

“This funding will serve to benefit our local governments in very important ways,” said Giglio. “Each year, they are processing thousands of records and documents. This money will help make the process more efficient while providing a public benefit for citizens.”

The Local Government Records grants, awarded throughout the state, are funded by the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund, which derives its revenues from a small percentage of the fees paid when people file or record documents with county clerks and the Register of New York City.

Local governments and school districts receiving aid within Giglio’s 149th Assembly District include Chautauqua County, Scio Central School District, Towns of Napoli, New Albion, and Persia, as well as the Village of Little Valley.

Giglio also points out that the grants will be used to help preserve the rich history of the Southern Tier. “Having a system in place to ensure good record keeping will allow future generations to understand the history of our region and its importance to New York state.”
