Assemblyman Lentol Proudly Announces Return of Farmers Market to McGolrick Park for Winter

Assemblyman Joe Lentol (D-North Brooklyn) is proud to announce the return of the farmers market to McGolrick Park for the spring/summer/fall/winter seasons. It will open on April 7th and run all the way through the end of 2013. Due to the farmers markets overwhelming success this past summer, the Assemblyman actively advocated for its return with the assistance of Down to Earth Markets, the organization that runs several markets throughout New York.

The farmers market in McGolrick Park had its first run this past summer from June to November and was positively welcomed by those in the community. The market is expected to return a majority of vendors from the market's first season.

“The neighborhood clearly wants healthy and fresh alternatives, which was illustrated by the great turnout at the farmers market during the summer,” Lentol said. “I’m glad I was able to bring this market back starting in the spring all the way through the winter with the help of Parks Department Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey and Nicole Reed from Down to Earth Markets.”

The McGolrick Park Farmers Market not only provides the opportunity for local North Brooklyn businesses to showcase their goods, but vendors from around the state have also joined in. Many calls were made to the Assemblyman’s office requesting to have the market year-round, while also praising the healthy options the market brought to the community.

“It was common sense to have this market year-round. I am so excited to have it back. Not only did I frequent the market myself, but I know countless people from the community are excited to have access to healthy foods,” added Lentol.

The market will return to the same location as last summer, on the corner of Nassau Avenue and Russell Street, every Sunday through the end of the year from 11 AM till 4 PM.
