Assemblyman Joseph Saladino (Massapequa) is pleased to announce that the Plainedge Public Library will be receiving a Public Library Construction Grant from the State Commission for Libraries to be used for reconstruction and repair projects. The grants are a one-time allocation of $14 million in capital funds provided by the New York State Legislature in the 2006-2007 State Budget.
“Our local public libraries are a very important resource of our community. They make a huge difference in the education of our children and facilities for individuals, families and senior citizens alike. They are educational and informational centers, and we need to ensure that they continue to provide these vital services to our community,” said Assemblyman Saladino.
The Plainedge Public Library will receive a repair grant of $33,335 from the state of New York to replace their heating system boiler.
"We deeply appreciate all the effort of Assemblyman Saladino on our behalf. We would not have been able to complete this project without this grant. He was most responsive to our needs," Marilyn Kappenberg, Director Plainedge Public Library.
These reconstruction grants will help public libraries better accommodate users with disabilities, provide Internet, computer and other electronic technologies to users because of outdated and inadequate electrical wiring, insufficient space to house the library’s collection and lack of sufficient space for public access computers.
