Assemblyman Saladino Supports Bill To Reopen State Parks
A message from Assemblyman Joseph S. Saladino
May 20, 2010
Recently, I became a sponsor of Assembly bill A.11013-A, which would require that the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation reopen and fund all state parks and historic sites through fiscal year 2010-2011. Since the inception of the park closure idea, I have been adamantly opposed to closing down the crown jewels of our state. Additionally, it is more expensive to close, and later repair and reopen a facility, than it is to keep a site open. As more families spend their summer vacations at home this year, having these parks and beaches open are especially important during this time of economic stress. During the summer months, our parks and beaches on Long Island are utilized the most. They contribute to the local economy and this is the perfect time to make sure that these parks and beaches are reopened for everyone to enjoy. It is important for the public to know that I fully support keeping Jones Beach and all of our Long Island state parks and beaches open and fully funded.
