Assemblyman Joseph S. Saladino recently announced that his office is now accepting applications for students wishing to apply for the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators’ scholarship program. The $1,500 scholarships are awarded to four students, two based on academic achievement and two for athletic talent, at their annual conference ceremony in Albany. This year’s recipients will be invited to Albany to receive their scholarship awards in June. Scholarship recipients must be present to receive their award. Assemblyman Saladino will nominate one student in each category and turn these applications over to the committee. Students do not need to be of Italian heritage in order to be considered for this scholarship.
“I am honored to be given the opportunity to nominate students who want to attend college or are attending college,” said Assemblyman Saladino. “Given the high cost of college today, students should utilize every opportunity presented to them to ease their college expenses. I recommend students interested in this program to apply for the Conference’s prestigious scholarships.”
Applicants can be current college students, graduate students or high school students planning to attend college in the fall; eligibility is based on the student’s grade point average, interest in pursuing higher education, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need.
“I am very proud of the role this Conference has in promoting higher education and helping students reach their goals,” said Assemblyman Saladino. “Our children are our future leaders. Higher education and higher learning is vital for the future success of innovation in the global marketplace.”
Applications can be picked up and dropped off at Assemblyman Joseph Saladino’s district office, located at 200 Boundary Avenue, Massapequa, NY 11758. You also may call 516-844-0635 and have an application e-mailed to you. Applications should be submitted to Assemblyman Saladino’s district office by 5:00 p.m., Friday, April, 29.
