Assemblyman Joseph S. Saladino meets with members of his Heroin and Prescription Drug Abuse Relief Task Force to draft legislation and amend New York State laws to effectively address the issue of dangerous drug addiction.
“A few years ago, it would have been unthinkable to associate a Long Island community with prescription drug and heroin abuse,” said Assemblyman Saladino.
“Unfortunately, these cases are growing more prevalent, and parents, the community and medical professionals must be fully informed and armed with the proper information to counter in-home drug abuse cases.”
Assemblyman Saladino is the chairman of the newly-created Heroin and Prescription Drug Abuse Relief Task Force, consisting of local community organizations with expertise in drug abuse, addiction and rehabilitation.
“This is an important tool that parents, community organizations, and even licensed medical professionals can use to help halt the crisis that is occurring in our very homes,” said Assemblyman Saladino.
Assemblyman Saladino also noted that he recently re-introduced an updated version of “Jonny’s Law,” legislation which would empower parents to identify if their child is using dangerous drugs, such as heroin, and seek assistance as quickly as possible. His newly-launched and free program will help supplement family assistance as well. Assemblyman Saladino sponsored the newly-revised legislation at the request of the Seiczkowski family, the parents of other young people involved with dangerous narcotics, and after getting feedback from surrounding community drug and rehabilitation centers and organizations.
Assemblyman Saladino will also be presenting a package of legislation that is privy to the topic of drug abuse, addiction and prescription drugs.
