Assemblyman Keith Wright (70th AD Central Harlem & West Harlem) held a press conference applauding the recent Housing Court decision to jail a notorious Harlem slumlord with the three remaining victimized tenants that reside at 2649 Frederick Douglas Boulevard.
On December 23, 2004 Housing Court Judge Gerald Lebovitz found managing agent Peter Golia and his girlfriend and owner Stacy Rosenblatt guilty of civil and criminal contempt for failing to correct the Housing Maintenance Code violations at their property at 2649 Frederick Douglass Boulevard.
Wright expressed, "Just under two years ago, these tenants came to my office and expressed their grievances about Mr. Golia and Ms. Rosenblatt and their unfit living conditions. I pledge to them that I would seek justice and resolution on their behalf. Because of my efforts I was publicly slandered and mocked by both Mr. Golia and Ms. Rosenblatt. But today I am very pleased that justice has been served and these tenants have been vindicated. I commend Judge Lebovitz for such an honorable decision that sends a very clear message to Slumlords in the City of New York-that cruelty to tenants will land you in the slammer! And During this Holiday Season our own Harlem "Mr. Scrooge" will spend well deserved time behind bars!"
The three remaining tenants of 2649 Frederick Douglass Boulevard were also in attendance to voice their appreciation for Judge Lebovitz’s recent decision.
