Zebrowski: Assembly Takes First Step to Holding Lawmakers Accountable
Legislation greatly increases transparency and accountability
June 13, 2011
“Ethics reform has always been one of my top priorities; I have been stringently pushing for tough reform measures that crack down on government officials who misuse their positions and betray the public trust. Today the Assembly has passed legislation that I sponsored that will crack down on the unethical behavior of public officials. These measures will create an independent oversight commission, allows courts to strip pension benefits from public officials convicted of a felony, and institutes common sense legislation that provides for greater disclosure of income.
“This legislation will not only ensure that both elected and appointed public officials and employees stay accountable to the people they serve but it is an important first step in restoring the people’s trust in their government.”
