Assemblyman Zebrowski Announces More Than $100,000 in Grants for Local Libraries

Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski (D-New City) announced that the New City Free Library and the Valley Cottage Free Library will receive over $100,000 in public library construction grant funding. The grants will allow the libraries to make much-needed renovations, giving them the opportunity to enhance and develop their facilities.

“Our libraries are vital pieces of our community,” Assemblyman Zebrowski said. “They provide a positive outlet for our children to learn and be creative and they provide invaluable resources like computers and job training for members of our community who may not otherwise have the access they need.”

The New City Free Library will receive $67,000 for renovations to the audio/visual area, allowing all materials to be used by the public and merchandise the collections in order to increase effectiveness. The Valley Cottage Free Library will receive $43,000 to promote greater energy conservation and reduce costs, as well as update parking lot lighting with energy efficient LED fixtures and replace a 30-year-old boiler.

“It’s imperative that we continue to support our libraries,” Assemblyman Zebrowski said. “That’s why I supported this measure in last year’s budget and will remain committed to protecting library funding in the future.”
