Statement on Central Hudson Rate Hike Hearings
March 10, 2006
When Central Hudson first proposed their rate hike this past August, I publicly questioned their timing and the ability of our residents to absorb such an increase, and that was before Hurricane Katrina sent energy costs through the roof. We are just now emerging from a winter that saw families struggling to make ends meet in the face of the highest utility bills in recent memory.
At a time when Central Hudson is raking in record profits, I find it deplorable that they would seek to place even more of the financial burden on the backs of their customers. I urge all consumers to take advantage of the upcoming hearings by letting the Public Service Commission know just how this rate increase will impact their community.
