Chair, Insurance Committee
Assemblymember Kevin Cahill's Statement Concerning the Findings of the Inspector General
May 17, 2007
“Tony Lanza brought in a new era of energy and activism to Belleayre Ski Center. He inspired confidence such confidence that state officials, myself included, championed the allocation of significant state resources to help make Belleayre the success it has become.
That said, I was not familiar with any of his personal business dealings, nor am I in a position where I would have knowledge of any of the particular practices of the ski center or its affiliated businesses. I am, however, intimately familiar with the need for allowing the appropriate investigatory body to do its job in the area of ethics and conflicts of interest.
I applaud the office of Inspector General for their work in bringing questionable practices to the attention of the State Ethics Commission and the Department of Environmental Conservation. I urge those agencies to do all they can to preserve and maintain the public trust by completing their work and taking appropriate action as quickly and completely as possible.”
