Kevin Cahill Appointed Co-Chair of the Legislative Ethics Commission
August 16, 2007
Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess), has been designated Co-Chairperson of the Legislative Ethics Commission. “I am honored to have been selected to lead the Legislature in this capacity. Now more than ever, it is critical that we strive to maintain the highest standards of ethical behavior,” said Mr. Cahill.
The nine-member Commission includes both legislators and non-legislators. It was created pursuant to the Ethics Reform Act of 2007, passed earlier this year, and replaces the Legislative Ethics Committee, which had been made up entirely of members of the Legislature.
“Two years ago, when I was named Chair of the Legislative Ethics Committee, I pledged to use the position as a platform to reform the way this important committee works,” said Mr. Cahill. “The increased disclosure requirements and the inclusion of private citizens on this new commission will allow the public the insight they deserve into the process that governs and guides the ethics of elected officials, candidates and party leaders.”
