Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess), announced that he has secured more than $62 million in the 2008-2009 State Budget for capital projects at SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Ulster. Nearly $61 million will go to SUNY New Paltz, with $48 million to be used for the construction of a new science building and $12.8 million for the modernization of the Sojourner Truth Library. SUNY Ulster will receive $1.42 million to improve classroom facilities.
“I have long recognized the critical role higher education plays in economic development. SUNY New Paltz and Ulster County Community College have proven time and again that they can be the solid foundation of our local economy,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “This funding will provide our institutions and students with the resources necessary to further enhance their significant contributions to the region.”
“Assemblyman Kevin Cahill once again has taken a leadership role on behalf of his alma mater. In securing funds for a new science building and sorely needed renovation of our campus library, he is providing New Paltz students and faculty with superb spaces for teaching and learning,” said SUNY New Paltz President Steve Poskanzer. “Our new science building will enable us to train future technology leaders for the Hudson Valley and a renovated 21st century library will truly be the intellectual heart of our campus. We are deeply grateful.”
