Cahill Appointed to Quadricentennial Commission
April 18, 2008

Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) announced today that he has been appointed by Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to serve on the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission.

In the summer of 2009, the Hudson Valley, the country and the world will celebrate New York State's distinguished heritage by commemorating the 400th anniversary of the historic travels of Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain, as well as the 200th anniversary of Robert Fulton's steamship voyage along the Hudson River. The Commission was established by the Legislature in 2002 to develop and promote plans and activities to commemorate these historic events.

“The upcoming Quadracentennial celebration presents an enormous opportunity to showcase the Hudson Valley around the world and I am honored to have been chosen by Speaker Silver to serve the state in this capacity,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “The Commission has put together a terrific team whose work promises to leave behind a legacy that will last long beyond next year’s historic events. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of those efforts.”

“Kevin Cahill is known in the Assembly Majority for his broad range of community involvement and his strong advocacy for the Hudson Valley,” said Silver. “I know that his leadership and focus on getting results will be a strong addition to the Quadricentennial Commission and to the people of New York. This is an exciting endeavor as we celebrate cultural and environmental achievements of the past four centuries.”

"The executive staff of the Quadricentennial Commission is thrilled that Kevin Cahill has been appointed. To have his level of expertise, experience and longevity in the Hudson Valley is profound,” said Tara Sullivan, Executive Director of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial Commission.
