Assemblymember Kevin Cahill announced today that Blossom Rozman and Orvil Norman, Ulster County residents recognized by the State Legislature upon their selection for the 2008 Senior of the Year Award by the Ulster County Office for the Aging. The two have been chosen for this honorable recognition for their significant contributions to the community. A recent trip to the Empire State Plaza in Albany to celebrate Senior Citizens Day allowed for a welcoming visit at Mr. Cahill’s office.
Assemblymember Cahill said, “I am pleased to represent such selfless individuals who have devoted their lives to making a difference for those in need.”
Orvil Norman is the co-founder of the Ulster Youth Court and chaired the Ulster County United Way. He has served on various boards and is currently a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. “Orvil’s great community spirit is committed to both young and old – he is a statesman and quintessential volunteer” said Anne Cardinale, Executive Director of the Ulster County Office of the Aging.
Blossom Rozman is a long time member of the Ellenville Senior Group as well as the Kerhonkson/Wawarsing Senior Group. “Her fans claim she brings relevant information and sparkling discussions to the groups,” said Anne Cardinale. Blossom has helped organize the Cultural Diversity Program at Ellenville School and has coordinated trips to Broadway plays for over 60 years, all to benefit the Ellenville Regional Hospital.
Ms. Cardinale also added that “Blossom and Orvil have gone above and beyond what your average senior citizen can do – their contributions to the community are most deserving of this recognition.”
