Lake Katrine – Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D- Ulster, Dutchess) issued an appeal to area residents urging them to support the Hudson Valley Youth Wind Ensembles as they compete for funding from the Pepsi Cola Company’s $20 million Refresh Grant. The Refresh Grant Project is a result of Pepsi dedicating their 2010 Super Bowl television advertising budget to competing not-for-profit groups and organizations.
“By going to the Pepsi Refresh Project Grant website and voting for the Hudson Valley Youth Wind Ensembles, we do more than just come together in a group fund-raising effort for a good cause,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “We promote youth-in-arts education. Hudson Valley Youth Wind Ensembles provide a fun, innovative, musical opportunity for children in our communities. They teach important life skills through music, where students not only become better musicians, but learn to believe in themselves and increase their self esteem.”

The Ensembles Director Sue Litchenberg, a retired 25-year public school band instructor, is understandably excited about the group’s winning prospects. “Currently, we are ranked number 39 on the list,” said Lichtenberg. “Not bad, but we need a lot more votes to make this a reality. Voting only takes place until February 28, 2010, and people can vote for us once a day until then.”
