Kingston – Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) is urging City of Kingston residents to participate in two upcoming community events designed to improve the quality of life in the city. The events are designed to promote public safety through increased awareness and public participation.
On Thursday, March 25 at 7pm, there will be a Public Safety Informational Hearing in the Common Council chambers at Kingston City Hall, 420 Broadway, 3rd floor. City Alderman Tom Hoffay, chair of the council’s Public Safety Committee, has invited representatives from the Kingston Police department, Building Safety Division, members of City government, local clergy and community leaders to address and learn about issues related to neighborhood safety.
The burgeoning Kingston Neighborhood Watch group will hold an April 13 introductory meeting that begins with a “Meet your Neighbors” mixer at 4:30pm followed by an organized session from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Both events will take place at the Kingston Library, 55 Franklin Street. The group has a designated web page with full information at: www.kingston-ny-neighborhood-watch.com as well as a Facebook fan page with over 1,000 members.
“Communities thrive through citizen participation and those involved in these efforts are leading the way to a new level of civic responsibility,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “City officials and the Neighborhood Watch Group are to be commended for taking a stand to provide both awareness and solutions so Kingston residents have a renewed sense of pride and unity in their community. No concerned citizen anywhere should be afraid to act or speak out.”
“The beauty, history and quality-of-life in Kingston must be preserved,” continued Assemblymember Cahill. “I salute and applaud the combined teamwork of City officials and neighborhood residents who are coming together to improve the community in which we live.”
