Statement Regarding Governor’s Budget Extender Proposal
May 10, 2010
Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D – Ulster / Dutchess) released the following statement regarding the budget extender proposal put forth by Governor Paterson:
“It is unfortunate that budget negotiations have deteriorated to the point where we are as close to a government shutdown as we have ever been. I share the deep frustrations of all New Yorkers and particularly those who will be affected by the Governor’s furlough proposal. New York State is in dire fiscal condition and that is not going to change by pushing the problem off to next week. I have been ready, as have most of my Assembly colleagues, to make the tough decisions necessary to enact a responsible budget. I would welcome the opportunity to work seven days a week, if that is what it takes to agree on a balanced spending plan.”
