Albany – Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster Dutchess) released the following statement regarding the closure of state parks and historic sites across New York:
“Throughout the budget negotiation process, I have been working with my colleagues in the legislature to defeat Governor Paterson’s misguided proposal to close state parks and historic sites. I will continue to lead that fight. For struggling communities, these institutions are a proven, sustainable economic engine, and in some places, they are the central element to the local economy.
“The Governor’s insistence on closing parks shows an apparent disregard for the wishes of New Yorkers and he seems intent on having it his way. The Legislature has already demonstrated a commitment to keeping these sites operating. New York’s families deserve to have uninterrupted access to these public treasures, especially during trying economic times.”
