Statement From Assembly Energy Chair Kevin Cahill On NYPA Rate Proposal
July 26, 2011
(Albany, NY) “By advancing this rate increase at this time, the New York Power Authority determined that it is in the public interest to ensure that it has the resources necessary to maintain and modernize its facilities for the production and delivery of electricity to its customers.
“The next step in the process is the release of the details of the new rate schedule, followed by a public hearing process. It then goes to Governor Cuomo for his consideration. I urge the both the leadership of NYPA and the Governor to encourage robust participation in the public processes leading to a final determination.
“NYPA's customers enjoy some of the lowest electricity rates in the United States. Price and reliability are the keys to customer satisfaction. Balancing those interests can best be done when the public is fully informed.”
