Kingston, NY – Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) released the following statement:
"This is further evidence of Verizon’s neglect of their primary service customers. For many years Verizon and their predecessors enjoyed an extremely lucrative monopoly for telephone service. The fact that they now face competition doesn't relieve them of the obligation they have engendered as a result of the significant benefit they derived from generations with out competition.
It is also troubling that the Department of Public Service and the Public Service Commission would even consider rewarding Verizon management for forcing labor negotiations to a stalemate that lead to a necessary strike.
I call upon the Public Service Commission and Verizon to act responsibly ensuring reliable, dependable, quality service to all customers regardless of their financial situation and respect legitimate rights and needs of the fine men and women who work tirelessly to bring us that service.”
